Theater on Podol is a theater company located in the picturesque Podol district of Kiev. Her permanent home is an ornate 19th-century building on Andreevsky Spusk, a tree-cobbled street that hangs from the stunning St. Andrew's Church. Known as Montmartre in Kiev, this historic district has many cafés, small shops, theaters, and a frequent open-air art market that runs along the street. Writer Bulgakhov's house is a treasure on the street, along with museums and galleries. The British Embassy will soon move out onto the street and rebuild one of the many old houses for this. The Theater on Podol is currently closed for renovation and reconstruction work with funding from the city. Ultimately it will include a small indoor auditorium located in the building's original family theater, a grand podium with 300 seats, a coffee shop, gallery, fashion workshops, training rooms and office space.
During reconstruction, the company moved to a 17th-century training inn in Hart Podol's main square, Gostiny Dvor, where it has a long-term lease agreement. The Podol district of Kiev, which is now fashionable and much desirable, is one of the oldest parts of the city. Crowning the hill is the magnificent St. Andrew's Church, painted turquoise and dazzling roofs made of gold and green onions. Nearby are the ruins of an 11th-century church that were destroyed by the Tatars when they invaded Kiev in the 13th century. At the foot of the hill is a busy yard and shopping district, stretching north towards the stunning Dnieper River in Kiev and is an ancient area of shipping warehouses. Each city, similar to the welds, has a former industrial area Podol, adjacent to historic homes and landmarks, which were once somewhat neglected and quickly became a center of artistic and creative institutions. Podol is still a staff area and intended for this audience primarily the Podol Theater.
The company has made extensive tours and has been praised in Ukraine, Russia, USA, Greece, Egypt, Costa Rica and many other countries around the world. It has become a norm for theater to participate in the Edinburgh Theater Festival, which is the largest and most prestigious theater fair in the world. In 1994, the company risked bringing two Midsummer Shakespeare productions to Layali's Dream and Iago after Othello for the festival. And this was the year the theater in Podol became popular with the public and the media.
