Founded in 1929, the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the oldest concert organizations in Ukraine. The Philharmonic House - a well-known landmark and cultural center - testified to its history Tchaikovsky, Rakhmaninov, Shalyapin, and many other notable art workers. Here, in 1896, the famous photographer Fedetsky held the first cinematic show in Ukraine, and from here the first Ukrainian radio station was broadcast on air. The leading group of the Academic Orchestra is the Academic Philharmonic Orchestra. It houses nearly 100 professional musicians, many of whom are award winners in international and national competitions. The director of the orchestra - Igor Shapovalov - is a Ukrainian people's artist. In 2001, Yuri Janko - Artist of Ukraine, winner of the Vakhtang International Jordan Prize - was appointed Director of Music and Principal Leader of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years of the orchestra's existence, brilliant musicians have played with it: Anton Rubinstein, Henri Nigues, Svyatoslav Richter, Emil Gillelz, Aram Khachaturian, Mstislav Rostropovich, Rudolf Kerer, Victor Beckaisen, Vladimir Kreenev, Yes Starkads and Batta Porchiana. Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Spivakov, Dmitry Bashkirov, Daniel Kramer, Sergey Stadler, Alexander Knyazev and many others. In 1980, Ukrainian people's artist, winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, Vyacheslav Balken, launched the creation of the Chamber Choir, which joined the Kharkiv Philharmonic Society in 1990. This compact group, able to work in different styles and genres of choral music, has won In prestigious national and international competitions again and again.
