Azov-Black Sea Ornithology Station

The Azov-Black Sea Ornithology Station (Azblackornis) is involved in the study and development of measures for bird conversations in a vast area covering the coastal zone, steppes and part of the forest-steppe region. Work areas are not determined by the administrative region, but by the needs of a specific scientific program.

6 scientific programs have been set up at the station, which have been approved by the Committee of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The station actively participates in international programs and projects. Now these are Wetlands International Projects - AEME, Danube-Carpathian Program WWF, Others. For a long time, the station cooperates fruitfully with organizations such as WIWO, the Institute of Ornithology of the Max Plank Institute, and the National Wildlife Institute (Italy); Ornithology station at the Polish Academy of Sciences; National Institute of Ornithology (Vogluart, Helgoland, Germany).

Recognized by scientific circles in Ukraine and abroad, the station achieved the following results from its activity:
Designated to be the lead agency in the IBRD Global Environment Facility project.
- Coordinates monitoring of waterfowl in the Black Sea basin (Black Wet) in 7 countries of the Black Sea;
Includes the Wetlands and Protected Areas Management Unit, as a WWF expert center
Includes Branta Editorial Board since 1990;
A postgraduate department was opened to prepare experts with higher degrees.
