The Carpathian Biosphere Reserve is a scientific research institution protected from nature and of international importance. The scientific staff of the reserve pays great attention to developing the environmental foundations for the preservation of natural ecosystems and their management methods in the Carpathians. According to the results of the research carried out, dozens of volumes of “Litopys pryrody” (History of Nature), numerous studies and hundreds of other scientific publications have been published. Besides, the reserve is a training ground for environmental research for many other scientific institutions. Conferences, seminars and scientific symposia are held on the basis of the reserve. Students and specialists in biology, forestry and nature conservation carry out practical scientific work and upgrade their skills here. An environmental monitoring system is organized in the reserve, and it is a long-term continuous monitoring of the state of the ecosystems and the course of natural processes within them. The system of fixed (permanent) controlled plots consists of different climatic natures areas; A network of permanent plots, phenological, meteorological and hydrological centers, and permanent inventory paths have been developed. The Carpathian Biosphere Reserve is a member of the International Carpathian Association of National Parks and Protected Areas, and maintains close ties with nature conservation institutions in Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
