The Association of Ukrainian Banks (AUB), founded on the basis of goodwill, is an association of professional commercial banks and other financial and credit institutions in Ukraine. It was established in December 1989 at a meeting of representatives of 11 commercial banks on behalf of the Association of Commercial and Corporate Banks. The American University of Beirut actively participated in the preparation and approval of the National Bank of Ukraine instructions regarding the regulation and control of commercial banking activities, procedures for licensing commercial banking activities, provisions relating to the creation of reserves to cover losses arising from credit operations, and when establishing the reserves required by banks. System etc., a great deal of work has been done regarding the transformation of the Ukrainian banking system in accordance with international accounting standards which has enabled the national banking system to make great progress towards integration into international banking services, and to expand direct contacts of Ukrainian banks with banks around the world. One of the achievements of the American University of Beirut is the establishment of a commercial cooperation with the National Bank of Ukraine. Despite some contradictions in views regarding the activities of commercial banks, the operation and capitalization of small banks, regarding some items in monetary policy and the creation of required reserves, the American University of Beirut has, in general, a common approach of the National Bank of Ukraine with regard to the activities of the banking system.
