Ostro National Academic University is the successor to the Ostroh Slavic and Greek and Latin Academy, which was the first institution of higher learning for the East Slavic countries. It was founded in 1576 by Prince Vasyl Kostiantin, Prince of Ostro. The gentle princess, Halska Amira Astrouh, was the recipient of the academy and spent a great deal of money developing it. Basically, Ostro Academy was very common for European standards of medieval education, but unusual for Ukrainians, as there was practicing teaching of the so-called Seven Free Sciences (grammar, rhetoric, dialectic, arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy) and higher sciences) : Philosophy, Theology, and Medicine. The academy students learned five languages: Slavic, Polish, Hebrew, Latin and Greek. The originality of this institution was also in the fact that it was the first to unify two types of cultures, Byzantine and Western European. The renaissance of the Ukrainian nation has been associated with the Ostro Academy. Phone: +380365422949 Second Ring Street,
